Q?

How far does the OscarLine Strong Line pay out?

A.

The standard line length is 10 metres. This length allows you to be recovered to most vessels, including Yachts, Pilot Vessels, Commercial Fishing Vessels and Vessels with high freeboards.  If you require another line length, please make an enquiry with the OscarLine Team.

Q?

Why doesn’t OscarLine inflate at the same rate as my Lifejacket?

A.

The simple answer is both products do different jobs. If you are unfortunate enough to find yourself in the position of being an MOB and you're conscious, your world will already be turned upside down. You're quite likely to be panicked, in shock and trying desperately to get your breath and bearings, the list goes on. Your Lifejacket reacts quickly to get your head above the surface, so you don't struggle to breath. OscarLine will aid in your recovery from the water and doesn't need to be activated in the same explosive instant as your lifejacket. OscarLine will deploy at a steady rate (no more than 1 minute), whilst you wait for the vessel to come about and reach you.

Q?

How quickly is OscarLine deployed?

A.

Once the OscarLine Pod is submerged in water it will begin to deploy. It will take no longer than 1 minute until the target is fully deployed, however, the target can be collected and used as intended long before full inflation is achieved.

Q?

Can I re-use OscarLine once it has been deployed?

A.

No. OscarLine is a single use device and there are no user serviceable parts.

Q?

What’s the maximum lifting capacity of the OscarLine Strong Line?

A.

The Strong Line is rated at 200KG, more than enough to lift a casualty from the water.

Q?

Whats the Service life for OscarLine?

A.

Just like your Lifejacket, you should check over OscarLine, before you undertake any voyage. We recommend replacing your unused OscarLine, every 2 to 3 years which can be done at a reduced cost when returning your previous device.

Q?

Why do you attach the lifting line to the OscarLine Strong Point and not the OscarLine Target?

A.

OscarLine uses 2 different line ratings. The thin line used to lace the target mesh has a breaking strain of over 200kg. It allows us to make the OscarLine Pod as compact as possible. This is more than enough to attach the casualty to the vessel but not sufficient to cope with full-weight shock loads during recovery. The Strong Point of OscarLine is firmly attached to the Strong Line which has a breaking strain of over half a tonne. Once you have your lifting line securely attached to the strong point, you are then able to cut the target off if it has jammed into the winch, cleat or other strong point.

Q?

What kind of Boat Hook do you need to be able to collect the OscarLine target?

A.

You can use any boathook suitable for general use on that vessel.

Q?

What special equipment do I need onboard to recover an MOB equipped with OscarLine?

A.

For the vast majority of vessels you need nothing more than a standard boat hook in order to recover an MOB wearing OscarLine.

Q?

How much will OscarLine cost?

A.

OscarLine's price is yet to be 100% confirmed as we are currently in the process of finalising our manufacturing route and assembly. Once we have the price we will update our website, if you would like to be kept up to date Please fill out this short contact form and let us know

Q?

How do I train to use OscarLine?

A.

Live OscarLine is a single use device, so we created a durable and reusable OscarLine Training Kit which mimics the feel and setup of a Live OscarLine allowing you to practice recovery in as many scenarios as you want. This is ideal for you and your crew, friends, family, sailing club etc. Click here to find out more about our OscarLine Training Kit.

Q?

How do I activate OscarLine?

A.

You don't. OscarLine will deploy automatically when your Lifejacket is inflated. The release of OscarLine into the water allows the OscarLine Pod to be submerged in water, deploying the target ready for collection.

Q?

Will OscarLine activate if I get some water inside my Lifejacket?

A.

No. OscarLine will only activate if submerged in water. The OscarLine pod has been designed with a unique water control system, so any water poured, sprinkled or showered on the pod cannot enter. This avoids any unwanted activation until you inundate or submerge the pod. See the Water Control System in action.

Q?

Is there a chance of getting entangled in OscarLine when in the water?

A.

OscarLine is designed to prevent this happening as far as possible. Only when the target is collected does the strong line begin to pay out under a small amount of tension, keeping it clear of the water and out of harms way. Until the rescue begins, no line is left to float free and risk entanglement with the casualty.

Q?

Will I be able to use OscarLine without a Lifejacket?

A.

We strongly suggest that if you have OscarLine you also need an automatically inflating Lifejacket that includes a load bearing built-in safety harness. In the future we hope to be able to include OscarLine in wet weather clothing that includes a built-in lifejacket.
